This search optimization exercise will give you some insight into how Google views pages.  Takes good notes because the “SEO site advice” video gives information on SEO techniques, tips, suggestions can be used when you create or update your website / blog.  You will also be asked to list two additional search engine optimization tips from the video (so pay attention).

List of this modules training terms:

  1. 301 redirect – A message that the URL has moved permanently. This is commonly used when a URL has a new location and will not be appearing again at the old URL.
  2. Branding – A marketing function that identifies products and their source and differentiates them from all other products
  3. Content Management System  – Info system that is a combination of databases, software, and procedures that organizes and allows access to various forms of documents and other files including images, and multimedia content. WordPress is a content management system
  4. Crawlers – Software based searching tools that “crawl” the Internet constantly and add new sites and updates to their indexes as needed.
  5. Duplicate Content – If you have identical or similar content on more than one page on your site or even worse, you have the same content as another site. This is bad news for SEO because the crawlers used by the search engines will have to choose which page was published first.
  6. Keywords – Words that describe the information the user is trying to locate
  7. Keyword Phrase – Two or more keywords relating to a specific topic that a user might type into a search engine. also referred to as Long-tailed Keywords
  8. Link – A reference in a destination document to another object (such as a another web page).
  9. Link Farms – Groups of web sites that link to one another
  10. Meta description – A brief description of fewer than 160 characters of the contents of a page and why someone would want to visit it. This is often displayed on search engine results pages below the page title as a sample of the content on the page.
  11. Organic Traffic – Traffic that comes to a site by way of an unpaid listing in a search engine or directory.
  12. Page Rank – Numerical score that tells search engine how ‘good’ page is compared to others
  13. Page Title – The text displayed in the title bar of the browser window when a user views the web page.
  14. Related Content – Shines a spotlight on relevant content from across your site and decreases bounce rates. Could be displayed as links,animation, flyouts or fade box.
  15. SEO – strategy that utilizes website design, careful choice of keywords, links, and other techniques to show prominently in online searches
  16. Snippet – A short description of a web page that can include page title, URL, and meta description.
  17. URL – A location or address identifying where documents can be found on the Internet; a Web address
  18. Web Content – The text, pictures, videos and other components that are on a web page or post.
  19. Web Page – A single electronic document on the Internet. Typically, web pages are encoded in HTML and are designed to be downloaded and viewed in a web browser. Can contain text, graphics, sound and/or video.
